I don't believe in evil, I believe only in horror. In nature there is no evil, only an abundance of horror: the plagues and the blights and the ants and the maggots.


I think of horror films as art, as films of confrontation. Films that make you confront aspects of your own life that are difficult to face. Just because you're making a horror film doesn't mean you can't make an artful film.


One might say that the true subject of the horror genre is the struggle for recognition of all that our civilization represses and oppresses.


Where there is no imagination there is no horror.
